Dropped Object Survey
Objects falling from height remain one of the most common causes of offshore accidents, despite the considerable effort the oil and gas industry has made to reduce the risks. Dropped Object Prevention Scheme (DROPS) surveys and inspections are a vital element of any dropped object control and prevention management system.
PGLS can help to prevent a potential dropped object, becoming another unwelcome safety statistic by conducting a detailed dropped object survey of hazardous areas. We undertake a comprehensive sweep of each area to compile a detailed hazards inventory list, supplemented by photographs.
PGSL uses its in-house developed packages and apps for conducting dropped object inspections. We implement programs in accordance with regulatory and customer requirements, DROPS society guidelines and PGSL’s Falling Objects and Securing of Equipment procedure. The latter contains the following requirements for establishing and maintaining measures that prevent incidents:
Securing loose equipment
- An inspection program for safety devices for loose equipment
- An inspection program for equipment aloft
- Follow-up procedures after equipment aloft has been subjected to abnormal loads
- Operational safety measures for areas exposed to falling objects
- Physical barriers against falling objects.
Areas that we typically cover on a full survey can include the following or be specific to your individual requirements :
- Derricks & Masts
- Travel/PH Equipment
- Comms Mast
- Substructure
- Jack House & Legs
- Rig Equipment
Our inspections are tailored to your DROPS programs such as:
- Documenting equipment location by inspection area
- Photographing each item surveyed
- Describing each item surveyed
- Inspecting and documenting primary securing methods
- Inspecting and documenting secondary securing methods
- DROPS remedial works
